Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
